Well, yes, the Deep Creek Divas really is an outgrowth of a moms group I was a member of, and it’s a group of former professional moms, who now have become stay-at-home moms and found ourselves in need of really a support system.  Things like we provide meals for each other when maybe we are dealing with a death in the family or sickness, babysitting on a barter system because none of us have a whole lot of disposable income right now.

Ken
How many moms are presently in the organization?

Liz
Well, the girls who go away is anywhere from 15 to 20 of us, but then really the support system of the moms group we’re members of is really infinite, 50, 60 moms.  Not all of them choose to go away each year with us, but they are certainly part of the group that is (inaudible).

Ken
And are they primarily just in your community there in Lancaster?

Liz
In Lancaster County, throughout the county.  We have one as far as Elizabethtown but most of us are within 20, 25 minutes of each other which makes it really nice because if you need help, it is - - everyone is within a call’s distance, Can you go pick up the kids, I’m stuck here, or I need a ride to drop off my van, or that kind of thing.  I need some shopping done.  Is there any shot that you can pick up milk for me because I am home with kids who are sick?  So the type of thing that maybe family provided in past but now we need to reach out to friends, and that is what we do for each other.

Ken
That is interesting. How about in terms of the kinds of things that you are presently doing for somebody or that you have heard that some of the other members are doing?  Can you give me an example?

Liz
Yeah, we had a sad situation where one of our mothers was dealing with a death in her family, and her family is far away.  So she was grieving and was really struggling with it, so as a way to help her with daily life that continues to go on, she still needed to feed her family and still needed to go grocery shopping but yet still needed to deal with all the details of a death from a distance.  We just all banded together and signed up to do meals for her, which we drop off to the family, hot and ready to go or ready to go in the freezer for another time.  We all take turns doing that just as a way to show that we are there for you, and if you need more, you can always call but we just drop it off and then go so that the family has their private time.  So that was a sad situation but also one that she knew we were there for her.

Ken
That is terrific.  Well, on a lighter note, why dont you tell me about the next time you are going to go away to Deep Creek.

Liz
Well, actually as a matter of fact, we leave this Friday morning. We are caravanning.  It is about a three-and-a-half hour ride.  Three large vans are heading down with 17 women and all of our stuff and all of our food. We have rented a seven bedroom home right on the water with a sauna and two hot tubs so you know we’re going to have a great time.  So we are really looking forward to that. It is a way to just re-charge.

Ken
And what happens to the children during this time?

Liz
Oh, they stay home with the dads.  The dads can re-charge on the golf course.  We re-charge down in Deep Creek, Maryland.

That is great.  Well, thank you very much, Liz.  I hope you all have a great weekend this time.

Liz
Thanks a lot.  I appreciate the time.
