Alumni Family :: Listen
We all prefer to think of families smiling, sitting around a picnic table at a sunny day barbecue or during the holidays sharing memories and laughs with eggnog and good wishes. But sometimes, on an average day, family may be a little less than that. Day to day life may be full of running errands, working, shuttling kids to games and classes and the dreaded bickering and arguing. An article on Medem, Connecting Physicians and Patients, discusses conflict and says it is an important part of family, especially those with children in the 5 to 12 range. “Although every family has conflicts, all the family members should feel as though they can express themselves openly, share their feelings, and have their opinions listened to with understanding. In fact, conflicts and disagreements are a normal part of family life and are important insofar as they permit people to communicate their differences and ventilate their feelings,” the article states.
