The average family... :: Listen
The average family size in America is 3.19, which means that most couples are having one to two children, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. So what’s up with the families that have eight or even 18 children? They are apparently news worthy and even have their own television shows on networks such as The Learning Channel. “John and Kate plus Eight” is a show that peaks into the lives of one of the most famous multi-birth families, the Gosselins, with sextuplets and twins. Then there’s the Arkansas family, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggers, who have single-handedly and without the help from fertility drugs brought 18 children into the world. Their youngest is an infant and the oldest, 20-year-old son, just got married. These people are religious zealots, although not hateful to their more mainstream cousin who hangs out at the house a lot. They home school the kids, monitor the Internet and TV time closely. Anyone else find it ironic that the kids can’t watch reality TV, but they are the subjects of it? Their web site is www.duggarfamily.com. Do you think that having lots of children makes families TV worthy? Of course, their lifestyle is very different most people (who after all have one to two children). It’s also a segment of reality TV that contains a little less contrived drama. Somehow, it seems pretty natural that a mom would be overwhelmed with lots of children or that siblings bicker. The fighting and whining isn’t in your own living room, so it’s a little entertaining, and it’s not between 12 beautiful women arguing over the same man or residents of a home that producers threw them into with a minute challenge. What’s your favorite reality TV?

I have many of my own kids, I don't need to watch a TV reality show about people with tons of kids when I got it in my own house! I can't say I have a favorite reality show but I like watching some stuff on MTV and VH1 like "Rock of Love" with Brett Michaels. Stupid stuff out there, it's almost worth turning off the TV and read a good book!
