Alumni Travel :: Listen
An article in Travel and Leisure Magazine coaches travelers on how to bare flying economy class. While many of us have been sitting in the back of the plane for years, others are rethinking spending extra on lush seating and now the cheaper seats are filling up quicker than business class, the article says. “The ever-struggling airlines are slashing services, raising fees, and charging for formerly free amenities—such as food, checked luggage, and exit-row seating—at an alarming rate. Given the flagging economy, leisure travelers are now battling over the cheap seats in coach with business fliers suffering from downsized expense accounts. It seems everyone is willing to suffer the miserable indignities of economy class in order to secure the cheapest tickets possible,” states the article. Tips include bringing less luggage onto the plane to avoid struggling with heavy bags down the aisle and leaving more open legroom. It also says you should bring slippers onto the plane and wear them during the flight instead of shoes. Get better seats by checking in online 24 hours in advance and pay a little extra to sit in the exit row for more legroom. For a full slide show, go to www.travelandleisure.com.
