Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? :: Listen
How do you greet someone during the most wonderful time of the year?

When I was a little girl, I only heard family and friends say "Merry Christmas" to each other. There was nothing wrong with that. I've noticed as I've gotten older that more and more I am hearing "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas." What's up with that? Seriously, are we offending someone by saying that? I still to this day wish people a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I can't see taking out the meaning and replacing with with "Happy Holidays." That's nice but come one. Do people really hate Christ that much that they are afraid to say "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to one another in fear of that person lashing out at us for saying it? Grow up!

I am married to a wonderful Jewish man who may not totally believe in Jesus or what the true meaning of what Christmas really means but he has no problem wishing me or others a Merry Christmas. I don't think I've heard him say "Happy Holidays" to anyone since we've been together. My husbands birthday is Christmas Day!! I wish him both, Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas. Of course I wish him Happy Hanukkah as well but on December 25th, it's "Merry Christmas honey!"

And what's up with writing "Merry Xmas" on cards and signs all around? Why are we taking out the most important part of that saying and replacing it with and X? That is horrible and degrading to the Lord. Keep Christ in Christmas people!
