MEYER TO OPEN FALL 2004 FLORES MBA DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES October 11, 2004 Sandra P. Meyer, group vice president of customer service, sales, and marketing for Duke Power, will open the fall 2004 Flores MBA Distinguished Speaker Series on October 22, 2004, at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on LSU s campus at 10:00 a.m.
 
Duke Power, which marked its centennial in 2004, is a business unit of Duke Energy and one of the nations largest electric utilities, serving more than 2 million customers in North Carolina and South Carolina. Meyer earned her bachelor of science in accounting from LSU, completed Harvards Advanced Management Program and obtained CPA status in both North Carolina and Texas.
 
She joined Duke Energy in 1976. After years working her way up through the ranks of Duke Energy subsidiaries Texas Eastern Corporation and PanEnergy Corp, she was appointed vice president of planning and finance at Duke Power in 1997. She assumed the role of vice president and corporate controller in 1999, and was then named senior vice president of retail services in 2001. She accepted her current role in 2003.
 
Meyer is presently responsible for Duke Powers retail and wholesale marketing and sales, economic development, and customer service operations. In addition to her duties with Duke Power, Meyer sits on the boards of directors of the North Carolina Manufacturers Association, Advanced Energy Corporation, and Leadership America North Carolina. She also serves as citywide chair for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Annual Campaign and is a member of their Executive Committee.
 
Meyer belongs to the North Carolina Association of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and previously served as advisory director of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs. She has also served as a regional director of Financial Executives International, as well as president of that organizations Charlotte and Houston chapters.
 
Meyer was president and board member of the ESCAPE Family Resource Center in Houston and a board member of Child Care Resources Inc. in Charlotte. The Distinguished Speaker Series is an integral part of the Flores MBA program at LSU's E. J. Ourso College of Business Administration. The series enhances students classroom education by exposing them to the latest forces shaping American and international business from executives who face those issues daily.
 
Upcoming speakers for the fall semester are Jonathan E. Martin, chairman and CEO of Roy O. Martin Lumber Company and Martin Timber Company, on October 29, 2004, and Joseph L. Herring, president and chief operating officer of Covance, on November 19, 2004.
