Minor in Spanish

In July 2006 I began attending classes at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, and in 2010 I anticipate that I will be a medical doctor.

While here at Wayne State I have volunteered to build homes for Habitat for Humanity, volunteered at health/blood pressure screenings throughout the city, and volunteered at Children's Hospital of Michigan and at the Wayne County Family Shelter. Volunteering is something that I have done since high school, and it would have been easy to push it aside when I started college. However, while in the Honors Program at Ferris I was reminded of how important it is to help others, especially those less fortunate. Honors gave me the nudge and helped me to refine my vision; volunteerism is a very important part of my life.

Currently I am a resident of downtown Detroit, which is full of cultural diversity. I don't think I would have been able to fully appreciate it without getting exposed to the cultural events that I did through the Honors Program at Ferris. Whenever I get free time I love to check out the newest exhibits at the Detroit Institute of Art and the Detroit Science Center, or I go to a play or a concert at the Fox Theatre. Honors helped to educate me about the intrinsic value of these experiences, and opened up my mind.

Not only did I feel prepared for "real life" after graduating from Ferris, but I felt prepared in the classroom as well. I felt more than equipped for my medical school education. I was one of the few people in my med school class that had worked with cadavers as an undergrad, so this helped with the steep learning curve.

The friends that I keep in close touch with now were all in Carlisle Honors Hall with me when we were freshmen. I definitely would not have changed a thing about where I got my undergraduate degree, and I would promote the Ferris experience to anyone!
