In 2008, OVU alumnus Pedro Dejneka will be
eligible for dual citizenship in America and
his home country of Brazil. However he has
already made an indelible mark on these
United States. Especially on the
underprivileged citizens of greater
Huntington, West Virginia.
Dejneka has lived in the U.S. for almost
twelve years, and his life in the Ohio
Valley region to date has been characterized
by hard work, tenacity and an attitude that
says: “When you do something, do it for the
right reasons. And good things will happen.”
Currently a financial advisor with Merrill
Lynch, Pedro came to Ohio Valley University
in 1997 on a basketball scholarship. By the
time he graduated with his bachelor’s degree
in business management, with a minor in
accounting and finance, Pedro had also
played four consecutive years on OVU’s first
NCAA Division II soccer team. He still holds
the school record for the most goals scored
in a game. “I was recruited to play
basketball, but soccer is my first love,”
